Server-Side Video/graphics

Hi, I'd like to know if any of the hosting plans come with MENCODER, FLVTOOL2, and FFMPEG for use with video applications? Or, if not, can they be installed on the webspace (it would require shell access at least)?

you can get shell access if you select it on the customize host account but i have no idea with the video coders. since video coders are cpu intensive softwares if you are converting large files, i doubt it is available.

I asked this question earlier here few months back. I didn't get any official answer but i found out that shared hosting is not at all suitable for FFMPEG scripts. Your scripts will have trouble with the shared hosting here. Besides that scripts like youtube clone, vimeo clone etc will take more resources which shared servers on xisto here can't allow that and they will either suspend your site or you'll be given option to upgrade to VPS or dedicated server. If you've earned enough mycents from here then i suggest you to take VPS package here. If you can't afford it, then there is no way out this because even if you manage to get scripts running they'll not last long if you get traffic of 50 users daily.

Thanks - i was thinking about the vps package. The rendering I want would only be called by the admin so it shouldn't be too much of an issue - it is a plugin I have for batch processing graphics, thumbnails, avatars and the like.

If you want shell access to process images then don't worry about it. You'll be able to get those scripts running with shared hosting as well. But audio and video content should be hosted on vps/dedicated as i said earlier.
