Wireless Networking I need help. My acer is going crazy on me

Recommended Posts

My laptop is connecting to the list of wireless networks. It will not stay connected to mine. The bottom right hand coner there are icons, computer icons. When it says its connected to the network I go to open internet explorer and it says the web page cannot be displayed. Also my laptop doesn't stay on one wireless network, it keeps on changing to the next after a few minutes. I've read a bunch of problems already, for example it said I need a new IP address and the media was disconnected and acquiring network address. I know it doesn't have anything to do with my wireless connection because other laptops in my house connect to my wireless network just fine. So I know it has something to do with this laptop. I've already re booted this and did the system restore thing and its still not working. If anyone can help me please I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

First thing in any troubleshooting is to update the drivers. You need to find out which wireless card your laptop has, either by googling or by using the Hardware Manager (google it) then search the net for updated drives. ONLY download them from a trusted website, a lot of sites offer crap and viruses when you search for drivers. If the website offers you a free scan decline it, do not download any kind of PC Doctor software or anything that promises to find drivers and update them. You want the driver and nothing more. Then double check the password for the wireless is correct on the laptop.

Go into your order of preferred networks. Put yours at the top with auto connect on, disable auto connect on everything else. If you do not know how to do this, google it. It'll be in your wireless network connection setting somewhere.
