Cherry OS did you discover it yet?

Recommended Posts

Hello all mac and pc freaks!

I found this software, that emulates mac os. Now you will say blah!, there is so much of thoose programs lately, and everything is same about them... but this one that I discovered today can even emulate macos panther, and run it actually. Im just downlaoding it now - its called CherryOS. Here is the link for download. With that emulator you only need an legal copy of Mac OSX cd, so you can install it on your pc and run it. It's a good thing for users who can't decide to buy mac or not...
Im not sure how it works yet, ill try it as soon as I download it, so expect details later... :P

You're quite contradicting here

With that emulator you only need an legal copy of Mac OSX cd

Does quite conflict with this

It's a good thing for users who can't decide to buy mac or not...

But hey, emulators are cool:).

have you tried bochs btw? That can emulate a lot of OS'es too

Bochs is capable of running most Operating Systems inside the emulation including Linux, WindowsÂŽ 95, DOS, and WindowsÂŽ NT 4.

Although emulators are usually quite slow .... Is that the case with cherry too?

Dont bother. Its just a rip off of PearPC.

PearPC is currently recieving donations so that they can Sue CherryOS.
(sad world when you have to pay for justice, especially when pearPC already have the hard proof)

Linkage...
Proof thats its stolen (you can even do this at home with a Hexeditor)
http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

and the slashdot article with lots of loverly links.
https://slashdot.org/story/05/03/30/1552223/pearpc-trying-to-sue-cherryos

CherryOS is nothing more than PearPC with a Graphical Launcher (which probably took all of 10 minutes to write).

There is nothing more annoying than people who steal what your giving away, take the credit, and sell your work.

Good pont.
I've never realize that it's a ripof from someone else's work.

I had heard about this spat. It really sucks when commercial companies rip off the source code of various free software/open source projects and then pretend that they've done something special. I've been thinking about trying out PearPC, but I really don't see any need at this point. I do want to get a REAL G5 someday, though.

I agree. But unfortantly some people are not creative enough to come up with orignal projects.

On a heavier note, you can say it is like the Virtual PC. Virtual PC is developed by Microsoft, and it emulates MAC I think, or the other way around...Needless to say, it is extremely slow, and I would not recomend doing anything arduous on it. It not only requires a lot of RAM and system resources, but its productivity is extremely no competition to its resource-hogging "feature". It is not efficient.I would recommend to use it only to transfer file, but nothing more...If you value time, and believe Time=Money, than I would just suggest buying a mac... A physical mac can do the job WAY WAY WAY faster than a virtual mac.In some cases, it would out-buy itself. By the time you save in using a physical mac, you can be so much more productive.All-in-all, I disagree with emulators that emulates other operating systems. It is extremely poor.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

That makes sense too. But what if you don't have enough money? In my country mac's are extremely expencive... I budyed my PC, part by part for aprox. 1000$ and at my place a similar MAC would be something about 3500 - 4000 $. So I'd rather buy 4 PC's than one mac...

Hello all. Iv just read this thread and although I have used both pearPC and Cherry OS I thought Cherry was a G4 emulator and Pear was a G3...... How could cherry have stolen the code??? not that i'm saying they didn't who knows what happend. Anyway I think the best solution to the problem is to buy a mac when the new intel versions hit the market cos the old non intel versions will hopefully be dirt cheap. On the topic of emulators being good/bad I think emulators are great cos without an emulator i wouldn't be able to run linux ontop of windows using vmware (which runs just as fast as it has direct access to system hardware) although emulating a mac on pc hardware does make it run v slow.

I do NOT agree with that. MS Virtual PC is NOT slow. In my opinion it works far better and faster than VMWare. Anyway, I guess Cherry OS is not comparable with Virtual PC, because there's not hte same kind of resource sharing between host OS and guest OS. MS Virtual PC and MS Virtual Server are two great pieces of software which I don't wanna miss anymore.

By the way, me ... I can't see no reason why I should hurt my Intel PC with Apple software. :D

I've read that Apple got into some trouble because of some part of the OS that wasn't really authorised by the Open Source distributor or something... does anyone know more about it? And I have a Mac B) A iMac G4 but it's terribly bad as in RAM, as it only has 256Mb. When I get older and I have more money I will buy myself a G5, and much much RAM. But well, let's stop dreaming...

I've never really used emulators much, the real thing is always far better. But hearing of this CherryOS thing angers me. I find it sickening that non - profit software can be taken in by commercialising capitalistic companies. Especially when it's barely changed by the company. Yet they get off with it because they have the money to invent their own truth and use lawyers to make everyone believe that truth. It's disgusting.
